3rd out of 17 in AG

First race since Nov. 2019! I was 15 lbs overweight, barely trained (swam 5-6 times in a year, ran maybe 3-4 miles every week or two)... I didnt think I would do well. The weather was also not helping. A big storm was due to arrive in the afternoon, and the winds were steady at about 20 MPH. Water was choppy, and they couldn't keep the buoys in place. And that was a problem, because every wave (and every person) swam a different distance. Some people due to following the moving buoys, others just cheated their way to a short cut! I ended up swimming 375 yds (per my Garmin), and I did follow all the buoys as they instructed us. The bike was fun as always, the wind was definitely a factor, mostly a head or cross head wind, and side wind. We had a short stretch of tail wind early on the course. All in all, I was happy with my effort. The run was a different story. Because I have barely run at all in forever, and all runs have been at very slow pace, I couldn't get my legs, my body, to run fast. I was able to loosen up as I went along, was negatively split each mile, but I really wish I could have done better! I was leading my AG in the run, and got passed by one guy with 1/2 mile to go, and another with 20 yds to go !!! All things considered, I am very happy to have been able to put out a solid effort, considering the extra weight and lack of training. I did better than I was expecting for sure! And the podium spot was a huge bonus! :)
